Animals in business

It’s strange that when we talk to most people about animals being in business or businesses that use animals they either immediately think of the veterinary industry or they think or circuses or similar venues where it can be argued that animals are exploited. But there is little thought put into the fact that animals can be used in the service industry in tasks that are not at all demeaning and are simply a continuation of their duties when they’re working with law enforcement agencies. For example, for a dog there’s not much difference in training conditions or workplace stress, if indeed dogs do feel it, between searching for drugs in an airport or being part of a company that uses bed bug detection dogs. They use the same methods in both situations, it’s mostly to us that there’s a difference.

So why not use animals in your business? Dogs especially are very apt to learning and performing jobs. And when you put this in conjunction with the fact that there are things that dogs do that even modern gadgets have a hard time keeping up with – like their amazing sense of smell, for example – that might be a recipe for success.
